World Wetlands Day 2015

Today, 2nd February, is marked as the World Wetlands Day and the theme for this year is "Managing Wetlands for Our Future".
In Kenya, the celebrations will be held in Kibirong Wetland, Nandi County.




The World Wetlands Day marks the day when the Convention on Wetlands, also known as the Ramsar Convention, was signed back in 1971 in the city of Ramsar, Iran. The first World Wetlands Day celebrations were however celebrated in 1997.
This day is important in raising public awareness on the benefits and the need to take action to conserve wetlands.

Environment and Emergencies Forum: Nairobi 2017

The UN Environment in conjuction with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is hosting the Environment and Emergencies Forum (EEF) in Nairobi, Kenya from today the 26th to 28th September to discuss developments on how countries can prepare and respond to environmental emergencies. The main focus this year will be on the human health and environmental threats caused by armed conflicts. Usually, first responders go into humanitarian situations with uncertainity and always face various environmental and health risks in their duty. They also have limited knowledge of the area of their operation with regards to such risks since assessment of environmental impacts of conflicts has always been done much way after a war or conflict has ended. Go Wild for Life - WED 2016

This year's World Environment Day is being marked today and this year's theme is "fight against illegal trade in wildlife". This is aimed at pointing out issues on how wildlife can be protected by eliminating trade in wildlife trophies which has placed various animals such as elephants, rhinos, lions and turtles at the risk of extinction. Everyone has a role to play in the conservation of our endangered species and this the call by UNEP to have all participate in activities that will promote wildlife protection as the world marks this day so as to help preserve our heritage for the benefit of our generation and future generations as well.
